The glacier is retreating faster due to climate change, and that’s a fact. It’s predicted that by the end of the century, you will not be able to view the glacier from the visitor center. When the center was opened in 1962, the glacier was a half-mile away. At the visitor’s center, the most common question asked is why it was built so far away from the glacier. I visited the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and saw the results of climate change myself. In the late 1890s, scientists began studying the effects of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, and our current scientific community expands on those early pioneers, just as they are expanding on Galileo’s discoveries. It is ironic that Teresa Keegan cites Galileo, as his science is now an example of “settled science.” Let us bring this topic into the forum of open discussion. However, there are many studies by reputable scientists that disagree with the government-funded scientific conclusions.Īs Michael Crichton said, “Historically, the claim of consensus is the first refuge of scoundrels.” Scientists, like many others, are not above spinning an argument to suit their interests or attempting to silence opposing points of view. Their careers depend upon continuation of notion that global warming is severe and caused by humans. The climate divisions within our government do not want disagreement on the notion that the cause of global warming is industrial emissions of CO2, and that the amount of warming in the last 100 years is severe. You have actually given space in your paper for someone to point out that the Earth’s climate system is incredibly complicated, and that there are many differing points of view on the subject of climate change, its causes and severity.
